Storing your Garden Tools

It is hardly debatable that most people randomly stack and store gardening tools in a little corner somewhere or in a box in a shed. It is equally agreeable that having to stop while gardening to look for a tool you thought you had but cannot find is less than amusing. Storing and organizing your tools requires effort, but the benefits are far more rewarding.

Gardening tools should always be kept off the ground. The nature and design of most tools are dangerous when stored carelessly, especially big tools such as rakes, hoes, and shovels. The most highly recommended solution for storage includes utilizing wall space you might have in your garage or shed.

There are two ways you can hang your tools on the wall. Firstly, you can purchase brackets and clips at your local hardware store that are pre-designed to hang gardening tools and simple mount them (and in some cases screw them) on the wall. The advantage of using these customized clips and brackets is their diversity. They come in different sizes to accommodate large and small garden tools. A DIY alternative for storing your gardening tools is to mount (with screws) a long piece of wood strip against the wall and, using nails, hang the tools either by their handle on a single nail, or by their base by using two nails and spreading them apart based on the width of the tool. This method is not only cost effective, but it can also be completed in less than 30 minutes.

In instances where you do not have wall space for hanging your tools, visit your local hardware or gardening centre and purchase a tool storage box that is designed with holes and slots to simply place your tools in. This may be a more expensive option, however, when you consider the potential damage that gardening tools can cause it is best to be safe, than sorry.
